McCowan and Highway 7 is a very good spot, you have 4 major routes that being Viva Green, Viva Purple, Route 1 and Route 129A. Your fastest option is to take Viva either Green or Purple. Viva service is always 15 minutes frequency or lower and acts like an express service so theres not as many stops.

If you took Purple here is how you should go:

Viva Purple transfer to Viva Blue towards Finch. From Finch take the subway to Lawrence station. Take TTC Route 124 to Sunnybrook hospital.

If you took Green(keep in mind that Viva Green only goes to McCowan and Hwy 7 only during rush hour, so take this if you go early in the morning and come back past 3:00pm)

Viva Green all the way to Don Mills station. Take the subway to Bayview station and from Bayview station take TTC Route 11 straight to Sunnybrook.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

hi...sorry, i know this sounds really stupid, but what do you mean by viva purple and blue? are those the names of the bus route? do they have numbers as well, or just colours?

also, i vaguely remember someone telling me that i can get onto bayview avenue via one viva bus and i'd have to transfer on bayview and take the ttc to lawrence...

or that i could go directly to finch (via yonge) and take a bus from there (i think you gave me this option as well through the viva purple/blue option)

also, is there a monthly pass that covers yrt/viva/ttc transit? if not, its going to be very expensive for me to get to work :I

can you tell me which route will be faster, and any addition information (i.e. numbers) of the bus routes!!

thanks SO much for your help...sorry about my confusion!

Not at all, YRT's system can be confusing at first since its not as big as the TTC and not as linear since its lacking the grid system.

There is a GTA pass, its a weekly pass that costs I believe $41.25 but remember its weekly. The good thing about this pass is, you can travel as much as you wish in TTC, YRT, Mississauga and Brampton transit routes. Sadly there is no monthly pass, its weekly so you have to buy this every week but if you plan on crossing from York Region into Toronto 5 days a week it is cheaper than tickets and tokens especially with TTC raising fares.

Now as for Viva, the route sign will display the colours of Viva which mean their routes. They do not have any route numbers, keep that in mind. Purple is essentially the Hwy 7 bus, going east and west. Viva Blue is the Viva route running Yonge making it the most busiest Viva route. Viva Green goes to Don Mills station, when its rush hour it will go to McCowan, when its not rush hour it will go to Unionville GO station. Viva Pink is a route that goes from Finch station to Unionville GO and operates only during the rush hour. Viva Orange goes from Martin Grove(very far west) all the way to Downsview Station. So to sum it up, the useful routes for you are Green, Blue and Purple.

Viva Green, Viva Purple and Viva Pink all meet at the stops Warden or Enterprise which is nearby Unionville GO Station. Should you wish to transfer to a different Viva route, Enterprise is the stop to take.

Purple always goes from McCowan to York University, Green will only go to McCowan during rush hour. Blue is always running on Yonge Street from Finch Station to Newmarket.

Make a note here:

So your fastest route is Viva Green to Don Mills station. This is because Viva Green is a light route, the most busiest roads it travels along is Warden and Finch. It travels on Finch so briefly even heavily conjested its no big deal. The problem here is it doesn't go to McCowan unless its the rush hour. So if do go during the rush hour, theres no mistake that Green is your best option. During midday service, you can transfer to Green by using Viva Purple however you will be forced to wait at Enterprise and there is a 15 minute frequency during midday.

However your most reliable option is taking Purple to Richmond Hill Center(its a big new bus terminal near Famous Player's Colossus theatre on Yonge and Hwy 7). Transfer from Purple to Viva Blue going to Finch Station. The good thing about taking this route is because it travels to York University its frequency is better than Green's. It always goes to McCowan and Hwy 7 so if you happen to miss the rush hour, have no fear because its not rush hour so Hwy 7 will not be clogged up nor will Yonge Street.

At McCowan and Hwy 7 you have 2 other routes available to you. Route 1 which is strictly linear on Hwy 7. That route goes from Richmond Hill Center to Stouffville hospital on Hwy 7. You also have access to Route 129A McCowan North, a TTC route that goes from Major Mackenzie all the way to Scarborough Town Center.

As for buses Viva Blue exclusively uses the articulated AG300 buses. So in short Viva Blue buses are very very long bendy buses.

When your travelling, if your unsure or forgot about how Viva works, ask a driver. So far every single driver on Viva so far has been very friendly and is willing to help you set off on your way. Viva drivers may not know enough about YRT local routes, but for Viva they are very helpful.

what did you mean when you said that Purple routes going southbound would be discontinued at the times you listed? I was just confused because when I think purple, i think east -west. Clarification would be great since it's my daily route, thanks.

thanks for all the other info!! =]

Ha ha, YRT appears to have made an error, since this is exactly what they have posted. Yes it should be westbound and eastbound. Replace Southbound with Eastbound and Northbound with Westbound.
